Marsaxlokk moved a step closer to securing promotion to the Second Division following a dramatic 3-2 win over Santa Lucia at the Sirens Stadium in one of the six BOV Third Division matches in programme on Sunday.
Mdina Knights and Attard stay second, two points behind the leaders, as both registered wins.
Mdina beat Kalkara 3-1 at the Charles Abela Stadium. A brace by Dylan Mintoff on the 18th and 37th to put the Knights two goals ahead and although Lizio Grech reduced the gap on the 57th, Ben Camilleri sealed the issue with a third goal six minutes from time. Attard, on the other hand, defeated Luqa St. Andrew’s 2-0 in another match at the Charles Abela Stadium courtesy of goals by Kurt Zahra on the 33rd and Gabriel Buttigieg on the 70th.
Ghaxaq beat Marsaskala 1-0 at the Luxol Stadium to move fourth, two points behind Mdina and Attard.
Dingli Swallows turned defeat into victory, beating St. Venera Lightnings 2-1 at the Sirens Stadium. Shamison Farrugia put the Lightnings ahead on the 15th but goals by Luke Galea on the 24th and 89th gave Dingli the three points.
Xghajra Tornados defeated Mtarfa 1-0 thanks to a goal by Nikolai Dimitrov on the 26th.
Marsaxlokk lead the way with 46 points, followed by Mdina and Attard on 44, Ghaxaq 42, Santa Lucia 41, Dingli 38, Marsaskala 33, St. Venera and Xghajra 22, Luqa 21, Kalkara 18, Mtarfa 13 and Ta’ Xbiex 12.
