Holders Birkirkara, Floriana, Pembroke Athleta and First Division side Pietà Hotspurs seek one of the two remaining FA Trophy semi-final spots on Wednesday as the two quarter-finals will be played at the National Stadium.
It will be no easy match for the Stripes as they are yet to beat Floriana this season after two goalless draws and a narrow 1-0 win for the Greens. The FA Trophy is now the main objective for both sides after both lost ground in the race for honours in their Premier League campaign.
To reach this stage, Birkirkara defeated Second Division side Kirkop United 6-0 and Valletta 1-0. Floriana, on the other hand, beat Gozitan side St. Laurence Spurs 3-0 and First Division side Lija Athletic 2-1.
Meanwhile in the first match, Pembroke Athleta start as favourites to beat the only First Division side which made it to the quarter-finals – Pietà Hotspurs.
Pembroke registered a major surprise in the fourth round after beating Hibernians 2-1 after defeating San Gwann 3-0 in the previous round. The Hotspurs, on the other hand, entered the competition in the second round where they defeated Senglea Athletic 2-1 and went on to beat Zejtun Corinthians 4-1 in the third round and St. George’s 3-2 in the third round.
