Wanderers through to FA Trophy semi-finals

Sliema Wanderers are the first semi-finalists of the FA Trophy after eliminating St. Andrews, beating them 2-1 at the Hibernians Stadium on Tuesday.

It was therefore another narrow win which sees the Wanderers through after defeating Vittoriosa Stars 1-0 and Gharghur 2-1 in the previous rounds.

Johann Bezzina put Sliema ahead thanks to a powerful shot from the right which gave goalkeeper Jake Galea no chance.

St. Andrews levelled matters on the 69th when they were awarded a penalty after Salomon Wisdom was brought down inside the area and from the penalty spot, Joseph Farrugia converted.

Four minutes from time, substitute Aidan Friggeri notched the winner when off a freekick from the right, the ball was deflected in his direction and he slammed the ball home.
