Ghajsielem suffer shock defeat to Kercem — Xaghra United Second Division champions

Ghajnsielem failed to take the point they needed to secure the Gozo Football League First Division championship after losing 1-3 to Kercem Ajax at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday. A result which means that the title will be decided in the big match between Ghajnsielem and Xewkija next Sunday.

Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza put the Blacks ahead two minutes in the second half but a brace by Claudio Antunes on the 57th and 63rd and a goal by Andrew Mizzi on the 90th gave Kercem the three points.

Xewkija Tigers moved to just three points behind the leaders after beating Oratory Youths 4-1. Dene Shields put the Tigers ahead on the 17th, Thiago Melo Dos Santos doubled the scoe on the 34th and John Camilleri made it 3-0 on the 70th. Manwel Cordina pulled one back on the 77th but Dene Shields added another three minutes in added time.

On Monday, St. Laurence Spurs defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 1-0 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium thanks to a goal by Jason Theuma on the 11th.

Meanwhile Xaghra United were declared Second Division champions after beating Sannat Lions 4-1 on Friday. Joseph Xerri converted a penalty to put Xaghra ahead and although Antoine Camilleri equalised five minutes later, Xaghra regained the lead through Arthur Farrugia on the 47th with Daniel Bartolo scoring twice on the 69th and 89th.

Thanks to this result, Nadur Youngsters made sure of promotion.

On Wednesday Zebbug Rovers defeated Qala Saints 5-3. Ejofor Nkwocha, Christian Vella and Nkwocha gave Zebbug a three-goal lead with goals on the 5th, 17th and 20th. Oleg Pogukay reduced the gap on the 23rd but Joel Xuereb made it 4-1 on the 38th. Dylan Bellotti and Andrew Borg scored for Qala to reduce the gap further on the 47th and 77th but Joel Xuereb sealed the issue with a fifth goal on the 90th.
