Xewkija Tigers won the first major honour in Gozo after claiming the GFA Super Cup thanks to a dramatic 5-4 win over champions Ghajnsielem at the Gozo Stadium on Friday.
Raphael Kooh Sohna converted a penalty to put the Blacks ahead on the half-hour and eight minutes later, Kenny Hili doubled the score.
Seven minutes in the second half, the Tigers were awarded a penalty but Daniel Bogdanovic’s effort from the penalty spot was neutralised by the Ghajnsielem goalkeeper. Xewkija however reduced the gap three minutes later through Dene Shields and on the hour, Thiago Melo dos Santos equalised. Rodney Buttigieg put the Tigers ahead for the first time on the 62nd minute with Daniel Bogdanovic adding another on the 77th and Thiago Melo dos Santos scoring a fifth goal on the 79th.
Chris Camilleri and John Camilleri were on target for the Blacks on the 82nd and 93rd to reduce the gap to just one goal.
The game was suspended twice by referee Stefan Pace due to power failure at the Gozo Stadium.
