BOV Division 1: Mqabba return to winning ways

BOV-First-DivisionMqabba returned to winning ways as they defeated Gharghur 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium in one of the four BOV First Division matches in programme on Sunday.

Paul Chimezie put Mqabba ahead on the 22nd minute but five minutes later, Carlo Gie levelled matters. Mqabba regained the lead thanks to a Claudio Calleja penalty ten minutes from the end of the first half and Arilson Mello da Silva sealed the issue with a third goal fifteen minutes from time.

Rabat Ajax and Lija Athletic joined Vittoriosa in fourth place as they registered wins at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Lija came from behind to beat Vittoriosa 2-1. Petar Mrvic put the Stars ahead but Erjon Beu and Paolo Dandolo turned the score in Lija’s favour.

On the other hand, Wayne Borg scored the all-important goal for Rabat in a win over Marsa.

After suffering three consecutive defeats, Pietà Hotspurs bounced back with a comfortable 3-0 win over Fgura United. Juan Manuel Ruiz Perez opened the score on the 32nd and just before half-time, Neil Pace Cocks doubled the score. Yordan Dimitrov made it 3-0 twelve minutes from time.

Senglea and Mqabba lead the way with 13 points, followed by Naxxar on 12, Rabat, Lija and Vittoriosa 10, Pietà and Qormi 9, Gharghur, Fgura and Sirens 7, Zebbug and Melita 5 and Marsa 3.
