BOV Division 2: Qrendi, Zejtun maintain unbeaten run

BOV-Second-DivisionQrendi and Zejtun Corinthians maintained their unbeaten run in the BOV Second Division as both registered wins on Sunday.

Goals by Anthony Ewurum on the 22nd and Kumpei Tanaka on the 81st gave Zejtun a 2-0 win over neighbours Marsaxlokk at the Charles Abela Stadium while at the Luxol Stadium, Qrendi defeated Attard 2-0 courtesy of Dylan Zarb on the 65th and Giovanni Galea on the 79th.

San Gwann beat Ghaxaq 6-0 at the Sirens Stadium. Abeeb Abiodun Williams put San Gwann ahead after just two minutes, the same player doubled the score on the 7th and Josef Cutajar made it 3-0 on the 9th. Seven minutes in the second half, Mark Attard scored the fourth goal. Stacey Vella added another five minutes later and Nezar Abouhaisa scored the sixth and final goal on the 70th.

St. George’s defeated Mgarr United 2-1 at the Luxol Stadium. The Saints took the lead just before half-time thanks to Lydin Camilleri. Dylan Caruana doubled the score on the 58th with Matthew Agius scoring a consolation goal for Mgarr fifteen minutes from time.

Swieqi United and Zabbar St. Patrick shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Karl Sacco put Zabbar ahead on the 74th minute but three minutes in added time, Roderick Taliana rescued a point for Swieqi.

At the Sirens Stadium, Siggiewi beat Mellieha 3-2. Shamison Farrugia put Mellieha ahead on the 18th minute but a brace by Samuel Vella on the 34th and 75th turned the score in Siggiewi’s favour. Shamison Farrugia levelled matters on the 82nd but one minute from time, Samuel Vella notched the winner for Siggiewi.

Qrendi and Zejtun lead the way with 16 points, followed by San Gwann on 15, Siggiewi 11, Zabbar and Birzebbuga 10, Attard, St. George’s, Marsaxlokk and Swieqi 7, Mgarr 5, Gudja 3, Ghaxaq and Mellieha 2.
