BOV Division 1: Naxxar move five points clear

Leaders Naxxar Lions moved five points clear in the BOV First Division as they defeated Marsa 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Lorenzo Andriuoli put Naxxar ahead on the 5th minute and a Yuri de Jesus Messias penalty made it 2-0 on the 16th. Jurgen Debono added another on the 28th but Rodney Refalo converted a penalty just before half-time to reduce the gap.

Qormi were held in a 2-2 draw by Lija Athletic at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Noah Olawole Ojuola put Qormi ahead on the 4th minute but Erjon Beu levelled matters on the 28th. Michael Camilleri made it 2-1 for Qormi on the 76th but six minutes into stoppage time, Leon Muscat rescued a point for Lija with the equaliser.

Two goals within the first nine minutes paved the way for a comfortable 6-0 win for Senglea Athletic over Rabat Ajax at the Centenary Stadium. Juninho Cabral put Senglea ahead on the 5th minute and four minutes later, Terence Vella doubled the score. Juninho Cabral scored a third goal on the 59th and Terence Vella made it 4-0. In added time, an own goal and Ryan Dalli added another two goals for Steve D’Amato’s side.

Mqabba beat Melita 2-1 in another match at the Centenary Stadium. Arilson Mello da Silva put Mqabba ahead on the 7th minute and although Toraino Singleton equalised on the 57th, nine minutes later, Paul Chimezie made it 2-1.

Naxxar lead the way with 35 points, followed by Qormi on 30, Vittoriosa and Senglea 29, Lija and Mqabba 26, Pietà 25, Sirens 23, Melita and Marsa 19, Zebbug 15, Fgura and Rabat 14 and Gharghur 9.
