Birkirkara girls edge closer to title

Birkirkara moved another step closer to the championship in the BOV Women’s First Division as they ended the third round with a comfortable ten-point lead over second placed Hibernians thanks to a 6-0 win over Gozo FC at the Mgarr Ground courtesy of two hat-tricks by Kelly Agius Pace and Raina Giusti.

Kelly Agius Pace put Birkirkara ahead on the 19th minute and they had to wait until six minutes in the second half to double the score through Raina Giusti. The latter added another on the hour to make it 3-0. Agius Pace and Giusti increased the lead further with goals on the 63rd and 65th respectively with Agius Pace also scoring a sixth goal four minutes from time.

Hibernians defeated Raiders (Luxol) 4-1 at the Mgarr Ground in another match on Tuesday. Dorianne Theuma opened the scoring for Hibernians on the 35th minute and Maritna Borg doubled the score ten minutes in the second half. Rodianne Borg added another on the 78th and although Andy Zammit Mizzi reduced the gap for Raiders, Rodianne Borg made it 4-1 on the 84th.

On Wednesday, Mgarr United defeated Kirkop United 3-1. Natasha Pace put Mgarr ahead on the 22nd and Rebecca D’Agostino doubled the score ten minutes later. Liis Pello pulled one back for Kirkop on the 37th but deep into stoppage time, Patricia Ebejer sealed the issue with a third goal for Mgarr.

Meanwhile in the BOV Women’s Second Division, Swieqi United moved to just two points away from clinching the championship as they defeated Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 at the Zebbug Ground on Tuesday. A win which extended their hundred percent record to twelve matches.

Jade Schembri put the Rainbows ahead on the 16th minute but Kate Galea levelled matters three minutes later and Rebecca Naudi notched the winner on the 33rd.

In another match, a goal by Francesca Zarb six minutes from time gave Mosta a narrow win over Kirkop United Team B at the Charles Abela Stadium.
