Balzan seek top spot

Balzan would move temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table if they beat Hamrun Spartans in one of the BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday at the National Stadium and the Hibernians Stadium.

In other matches, relegation-haunted Mosta and Pembroke Athleta take on Floriana and Sliema Wanderers respectively while Valletta face Tarxien Rainbows.

Mosta vs Floriana, kick-off 16:00 at Hibernians Stadium
After collecting seven points from the last three matches, Mosta will be aiming for another positive result in their bid to avoid the bottom spot which they currently share with Pembroke Athleta. The Blues defeated Tarxien and Hamrun, holding Sliema in a 1-1 draw. Fifth-placed Floriana, on the other hand, won just one out of their last five matches, losing to Hibernians and Sliema and being held in a 1-1 draw by Gzira in their last outing.

Pedrinho is ruled out for Mosta and Sebastian Nayar for Floriana as both serve a one-match ban.

Floriana defeated Mosta 1-0 and 4-0 in the previous rounds.

Pembroke Athleta vs Sliema Wanderers, kick-off 18:00 at Hibernians Stadium
After holding Tarxien in a 1-1 draw, Pembroke defeated Hamrun Spartans 2-1 last week to register their first win in almost three months and now share the bottom spot with Mosta. The Wanderers are unbeaten in seven matches and after back-to-back wins over Hamrun and Floriana, they were held in a draw by Mosta.

Daren Falzon is ruled out through suspension for Pembroke. Sliema, on the other hand, welcome back Peter Xuereb.

Sliema beat Pembroke 1-0 in the first round but the second round clash ended in a 1-1 draw.

Valletta vs Tarxien Rainbows, kick-off 16:00 at National Stadium
Back-to-back draws with Gzira and Birkirkara and a defeat to St. Andrews practically ruled out Valletta’s chances of retaining the BOV Premier League title but still, Valletta will be all out to return to winning ways as they take on Tarxien Rainbows who failed to win any out of the last twelve matches.

Valletta could not count on the suspended Steve Borg and Jonathan Caruana. Tarxien, on the other hand, welcome back Alex Nilsson.

The Citizens registered a 1-0 win in the first round but the second round clash ended in a 1-1 draw.

Balzan vs Hamrun Spartans, kick-off 18:00 at National Stadium
Balzan target a third consecutive win on Saturday as they take on Hamrun, knowing that the three points would put them temporarily on top the BOV Premier League table, before Hibs face St. Andrews on Sunday. Their opponents, Hamrun, lost nine out of the last twelve matches and have gone three months without a win.

Alan da Silva Souza and Ryan Fenech are ruled out through suspension for Balzan. The Spartans welcome back Sergio Raphael and Igor Misan but Karl Micallef is suspended.

In the previous rounds, Balzan defeated Hamrun 3-1 and 1-0.
