Swieqi United BOV Women’s Second Division champions

Swieqi United were crowned BOV Women’s Second Division Champions after their 2-1 win over Tarxien Rainbows at the Charles Abela Stadium on Thursday. Krista Montfort put Swieqi ahead on the 3rd minute and although Tarxien were quick to equalise on the 5th through Chloe Ann Ellul, Sammy Jo Barbara handed Swieqi the three points with a goal on the 23rd.

Under the leadership of coach Keith Gouder, Swieqi dominated the division suffering only one loss throughout the whole season.

Norman Bonello, Manager of Bank of Valletta’s tal-Ibrag Branch and Pierre Brincat from the Malta Football Association presented the BOV Women’s Second Division League Trophy to the newly crowned champions.

Mosta finished in the runner-up spot and will now face Raiders (Luxol) in the play-off for a place in the BOV Women’s First Division on Monday 8th May.

On Wednesday, Mosta defeated Kirkop United Team B 2-0 thanks to goals by Emma Ciantar Piccinino on the 75th and Lynsey Fenech on the 88th.

Meanwhile in the BOV Women’s First Division, champions Birkirkara registered a 3-2 win over Hibernians at the Charles Abela Stadium. Stephania Farrugia put the Stripes ahead on the 10th minute but Ylenia Carabott levelled matters five minutes from the end of the first half. Kelly Agius Pace made it 2-1 for Birkirkara eigth minutes in the second half and twelve minutes later, Raina Giusti increased the lead further although Rodianne Borg reduced the gap four minutes from time.

Mgarr United registered a 3-0 win over Raiders (Luxol) at the Mgarr Ground thanks to a brace by Claudette Xuereb on the 8th and 65th and a goal by Brenda Borg on the 15th.

On the other hand, Kirkop United registered a 6-0 win over Gozo at the Mgarr Ground thanks to goals by Katryn Ellul on the 67th and 84th, Demi Magrin on the 70th and 74th, Liis Pello on the 71st and Emily Pace on the 81st.

On Sunday, Mgarr United defeated Gozo 3-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium. A Brenda Borg hat-trick on the 11th, 40th and 50th gave Mgarr a three-goal lead before Maria Farrugia scored a consolation goal for Gozo on the 58th.
