BOV Women’s League kicks-off

The new season of women’s football kick started yesterday with four matches from the new-look BOV Women’s League including champions Birkirkara, who claimed the Super Cup last week and title challengers Hibernians.

Champions Birkirkara defeated Raiders (Luxol) 3-0 at the Mgarr Ground. Alishia Sultana put the Stripes ahead just before half-time and Raina Giusti scored twice on the 47th and 55th.

Hibernians registered a fine 4-0 win over Second Division champions Swieqi United at the Charles Abela Stadium. Shona Zammit opened the score on the 23rd minute and four minutes in the second half, Ruth Steer Chetham made it 2-0. Jade Flask scored a third goal and eight minutes from time, Nicole Borg added another eight minutes from time.

At the Zebbug Ground, Kirkop United defeated Mosta 4-0 courtesy of Liis Pello on the 13th minute, Kim Simler on the 33rd, Demi Magrin on the 62nd and Jasmine Grech on the 78th.

In another match, Fgura United and Tarxien Rainbows shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at the Fgura Ground. Kailey Willis put Tarxien ahead on the 9th minute but five minutes from the end of the first half, Janice Pace equalised. Elena Sissons restored the lead five minutes in the second half but Ilena Navarro levelled matters ten minutes from time.

Meanwhile in the Women’s Under-19 League, Zebbug Rangers registered a fine 6-0 win over Sirens at the Kirkop Ground thanks to goals by Cherise Amaira on the 7th minute, Martina Camenzuli on the 13th, Shania Marie Spiteri on the 15th, 54th and 68th and an own goal on the 35th.

In another match, Birkirkara beat Mosta 3-1. Samantha Zarb put the Stripes ahead just before half-time. Michela Felice doubled the score on the 55th, Mariah Micallef pulled one back for Mosta on the 69th but Sarah Urpani made it 3-1 on the 78th.
