Wanderers pile more misery on Stripes

Sliema Wanderers returned to winning ways as they defeated Birkirkara 3-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday to move sixth in the BOV Premier League table.

For Birkirkara, this was the fourth defeat in seven matches, therefore remaining joint-fourth from bottom with just seven points from seven matches. This was also the second consecutive 0-3 defeat for Paul Zammit’s side.

The Wanderers took the lead just before the end of the first half when off an Edmond Agius freekick from the left, Matias Muchardi flicked the ball home past Philip Schranz.

Twelve minutes in the second half, the Blues doubled the score when off a cross from the right by Jefferson de Assis, Frank Temile controlled before serving Gabriel Aquilina who slotted the ball past the Birkirkara custodian with a diagonal shot.

Ten minutes from time, Sliema scored the third goal thanks to a Jefferson de Assis penalty.
