Hamrun through to FA Trophy fourth round after beating Gzira after extra-time

Hamrun Spartans reached the fourth round of the FA Trophy, sponsored by Boost Diesel, after beating Gzira United after extra-time in one of the six matches from the third round which were in programme on Sunday. They were joined by Tarxien Rainbows, Gozitan duo Xewkija Tigers and Kercem Ajax and First Division sides Qrendi and Zejtun Corinthians who all emerged as winners in the other matches.

The other teams to qualify earlier were Hibernians, Valletta, Birkirkara, Balzan, Sliema Wanderers, Lija Athletic, Mosta, Pietà Hotspurs and San Gwann.

At the National Stadium, the clash between Gzira United and Hamrun Spartans went into extra-time after neither side managed to score. However ten minutes in the first half of extra-time, the Spartans broke the deadlock thanks to Tiago Souza da Silveira.

The Spartans face Sliema in the fourth round.

First Division side Zejtun Corinthians scored three in the first sixteen minutes to secure a place in the next round with a 3-0 win over Second Division side Marsaxlokk at the National Stadium.

Luis Andre de Melo Lima put Zejtun ahead on the 2nd minute and doubled the score on the 14th with substitute Miguel Ciantar scoring a third goal on the 16th minute.

In the fourth round, Zejtun face Mosta.

At the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Xewkija Tigers defeated Vittoriosa Stars 4-0.

Following a goalless first half, Xewkija forged ahead on the 62nd minute thanks to Rodney Buttigieg. Claudio Antunes doubled the score on the 81st and two minutes later, the same player added another with Joseph Mario Vella scoring a fourth goal on the 90th.

Xewkija take on Hibernians in the next round.

In another match at the Kercem Ajax Stadium, Kercem Ajax registered a fine 5-1 win over First Division side Zebbug Rangers.

Andrew Mizzi put Kercem ahead three minutes from the end of the first half and in less than three minutes, they added another two goals thanks to Jean Paul Mizzi on the 44th and Ognjen Rolovic on the 45th. Rafael da Silva Gomes pulled one back for the Rangers on the 59th but Andrew Mizzi made it 4-1 three minutes later and Aleksandar Komljenovic added another on the 71st.

In the fourth round, Kercem host First Division side Qrendi.

Tarxien Rainbows defeated Second Division leaders Swieqi United 3-0 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Matar Dieye put the Rainbows ahead seven minutes from the end of the first half. Matthew Brincat doubled the score ten minutes in the second half and on the hour, Matar Dieye sealed the issue with a third goal.

Two minutes in added time, Kyle Muscat was sent off for Swieqi.

In the fourth round, Tarxien Rainbows will be facing Lija Athletic.
