Futsal: Luxol win top-of-the-table clash

Luxol revenged their first round defeat to Valletta as they won the top-of-the-table clash of the Gatorade Futsal League Elite Round as they registered a 5-0 win.

Rogerio Dos Santos Filho, Frane Depotovic and Mark Zammit gave Luxol a comfortable lead during the first half a wide gap in favour of Luxol. In the second half, the Citizens pushed forward with Xavier Saliba as the flying keeper and Luxol added another two goals thanks to Frane Depotovic and new recruit Maicon Da Silva Gaiewski.

In another thrilling match, Hamrun Tre Angeli defeated Swieqi United 8-6 thanks to a brace by Frank Paul Azzopardi and another by Everton Da Silva Santos, a goal apiece for Manuel Jesus Cespedes Gallardo, Florin Anton and Aleksander Tomin and an own goal. A brace by Anderson Belarmino Da Silva, goals by Andre Cianco, Chris Cardona and Shota Chanukvadze and an own goal provided Swieqi’s goals.

Elite Standings: Valletta and Luxol 33; Hamrun Tre Angeli and Swieqi United 25; Mriehel ESS 21.

In Division One, Pietà Nordiska, the University of Malta and Swieqi United U21 emerged as winners against Qormi, Marsascala and Junior College respectively.

Pietà Nordiska bagged an important win through a brace by Karl Sciortino and Kurt Bartolo’s goal. Qormi’s only goal was scored by Herbert Spiteri.

The Universitarians gained a comfortable lead thanks to Nermin Hasanbegovic, Jose Maria Aguilera Castellano and Gary Inguanez but Marsaskala hit back with goals by goalkeeper Jean Paul Bianco and Antonio Fraschilla.

Swieqi United U21 defeated Junior College 7-0.
