Joint-leaders Sta. Venera Lightnings and Mellieha keep marching on in the BOV Third Division, extending the lead over the teams in third place to ten points.
Mellieha beat Mdina Knights 3-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium thanks to goals by Lydon Micallef on the 10th, Bryan Bautista on the 52nd and Ryan Sciberras six minutes later while goals by Jonathan Micallef on the half-hour and Eddie Wileman on the 92nd gave Sta. Venera Lightnings a 2-0 win over Mtarfa at the Sirens Stadium.
At the Charles Abela Stadium, a Cristian Toro Perdomo penalty on the 75th minute gave Msida St. Joseph a narrow win over Xghajra Tornados. A win which puts Msida on level points with Xghajra and Kirkop.
In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Ghaxaq and Zurrieq shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Josef Felice converted a penalty to put Zurrieq ahead on the 40th minute but a Florin Anton penalty restored equilibrium just before half-time. Felice restored the lead thanks to another penalty seven minutes from time but deep into stoppage time, Clint Vassallo notched the equaliser.
Sta. Venera and Mellieha lead the way with 35 points, followed by Msida, Xghajra and Kirkop on 25, Mdina 20, Zurrieq 18, Ghaxaq 16, Dingli 16, Mtarfa 10, Marsaskala 7 and Ta’ Xbiex 5.
