Emphatic win keeps Victoria Hotspurs on track

Victoria Hotspurs keep marching on in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated Kercem Ajax 5-0 at the Gozo Stadium on Sunday.

Elton da Silva put the Hotspurs ahead on the 22nd minute, Ferdinando Apap doubled the score on the 35th and six minutes later, Christian Mercieca made it 3-0. Chris Camilleri increased the lead on the 64th and Andrea Debrincat added another on the 76th.

Xewkija Tigers returned to winning ways as a goal by Rodney Buttigieg on the 37th minute gave them a narrow win over Oratory Youths in another match on Sunday.

On Friday, Ghajnsielem defeated SK Victoria Wanderers 2-1 thanks to goals by Luis Andre de Melo Lima on the 41st and Alberto Xuereb four minutes from time – a minute after Abdullahi Ige Adeshina had equalised for the Wanderers.

In another match, Nadur Youngsters registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Gharb Rangers thanks to goals by Dewide dos Santos on the 23rd, Shaun Attard on the 49th, Ronaldo da Silva on the 55th and Joseph Owen Borg two minutes from time.

In the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Munxar Falcons defeated Xaghra United 3-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday. Silvan Bonello put Xaghra ahead five minutes from the end of the first half but Samuel Muscat equalised in stoppage time. In the second half, a brace by Michael Matthias Uzor on the 67th and 88th handed the Falcons the three points.

In another match, Sannat Lions beat St. Laurence Spurs 3-0 thanks to goals by Antoine Camilleri on the 31st, Mohammed Senussi Telessi on the 55th and 81st.
