Victoria Hotspurs move seven points clear

Victoria Hotspurs move seven points clear in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they registered a sixth consecutive win, defeating Gharb Rangers 2-1 at the Gozo Stadium on Tuesday.

Kevin Farrugia put the Hotspurs ahead on the 64th minute and Christian Mercieca doubled the score on the 76th with Reuben Zammit scoring a consolation goal for the Rangers on the 92nd minute.

On Sunday, Nadur Youngsters failed to keep the pace with the leaders as they lost 2-5 to Xewkija Tigers. Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato converted a penalty on the 14th minute to put Xewkija ahead but Darko Krstic equalised on the 17th. Claudio Antunes restored the lead for Xewkija on the 21st and five minutes later, Halleson Tiago Barbosa Honorato made it 3-1. Claudio Antunes added another just before half-time to increase the lead. Charles Hili reduced the gap for the Youngsters three minutes in the second half but five minutes from time, Claudio Antunes made it 5-2.

In another match on Sunday, SK Victoria Wanderers scored two late goals to earn a point in a 2-2 draw with Oratory Youths. Ralph Ebube Okpokwu opened the score on the 21st and Joshua Buttigieg made it 2-0 just before half-time. Ian Xuereb reduced the gap on the 58th and Ige Abdullahi Adeshina levelled matters eight minutes later.

On Tuesday, Kercem Ajax and Ghajnsielem shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw. The Blacks went two goals ahead thanks to Marco Antonio Morgon Filho on the 31st and Alberto Xuereb on the 40th. Anthony Zammit pulled one back just before half-time. Andrew Mizzi equalised on the 54th and seven minutes later, Elton Vella made it 3-2 for Kercem. Luis Andre de Melo Lima notched the equaliser in added time.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Munxar Falcons regained the top spot thanks to a 2-1 win over Qala Saints at the Kercem Ajax Stadium on Saturday.

Jordi Parnis put the Falcons ahead on the 15th minute and Michael Matthias Uzor doubled the score on the 34th with Michael Mumford scoring a consolation goal on the 73rd.

In another match, Zebbug Rovers defeated Xaghra United 4-2. Zebbug went three goals ahead thanks to Chris Borg on the 21st and Bartomeo Perello Palou on the 32nd and 41st. Clayton Hili reduced the gap on the 53rd but Chris Borg scored a fourth for the Rovers on the 72nd with Clayton Hili scoring a second for Xaghra on the 75th.
