Swieqi United regained sole leadership in the BOV Second Division as they defeated Kalkara 6-1 at the Luxol Stadium in one of the four matches in programme on Sunday.
Mirco Vella and Sadat Suraka gave Swieqi a two goal lead with goals on the 29th and 31st and after the break, Billy Mock’s side extended the lead thanks to Roderick Taliana on the 53rd, Gianluca Calabretta on the 57th, an own goal on the 64th and Mirco Vella on the 73rd. Timmy Thomas pulled one back late in the game for Kalkara when he converted a penalty.
A goal by Kevin Camilleri on the 32nd minute handed Santa Lucia a narrow win over Mgarr United at the Sirens Stadium while at the Luxol Stadium, Siggiewi maintained the challenge for promotion with a 2-0 win over Marsaxlokk, courtesy of Eman Ciappara on the 31st and Ryan Darmanin on the 71st.
In another match at the Sirens Stadium, Luqa St. Andrew’s defeated Gharghur 2-1. Greg Marney put Luqa ahead after just one minute and although Nikola Tasic equalised on the 11th, a penalty by Greg Marney on the 65th handed Luqa the three points.
Swieqi lead the way with 42 points, followed by Gudja and Fgura on 39, Santa Lucia 38, Siggiewi 34, Marsaxlokk 33, Kalkara 32, Birzebbuga 29, Mgarr 28, Luqa 21, Attard 13, St. George’s 12 and Gharghur 3.
