Mixed fortunes for Under-17s against Frosinone

The Malta Under-17 national team, led by Noel Turner, won a friendly match and lost another against Italian side Frosinone Calcio as part of a training camp ahead of the UEFA Under-17 Championship qualifiers later this year.

Malta have been drawn in Group 3 of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship qualifying round with Austria, Bulgaria and Slovenia. The matches will be played between October 23 and 30.

In the first match on Friday, Malta won 2-0. Jake Engerer, who is on the books of Italian club Cesena, fired Malta ahead on 26 minutes and St Andrews striker Mattia Veselji sealed the win when converting a penalty nine minutes into the second half.

On Sunday, Frosinone won 2-1. Luciani and Mattei put them two goals ahead but in the dying stages, substitute Ismael Borg pulled one back for Malta.
