Valletta hope to bounce back after Floriana defeat

Valletta will be all out to claim the three points on Sunday as they take on Gzira United at the National Stadium, kick-off at 18:00, in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme.

Following Hibernians’ dramatic 3-2 win over Birkirkara, the Paolites lead by two points over Valletta and therefore the Citizens cannot afford any result other than a win in order to regain the top spot. Before last week’s 0-2 defeat to Floriana, Valletta had won seven out of the previous eight matches.

Gzira, on the other hand, are currently third on 45 points and seek a win in order to close in on the Citizens. They won three out of the last four matches.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a goalless draw.

Meanwhile in the first match, kick-off at 16:00, Pietà Hotspurs take on St. Andrews.

The Hotspurs lost their last twelve matches and a defeat to St. Andrews would condemn them to a quick return to Division 1 after being promoted at the end of last season.

St. Andrews, on the other hand, lost their last five matches but failed to win any of their last ten matches. A win would, however, put them eight points ahead of Qormi and therefore very close to avoiding one of the bottom two spots. They would move to just one point behind Senglea, two behind Tarxien and three behind Mosta in the battle to avoid the play-off spot.

In the first round, the two teams shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw.
