Balzan, Valletta seek maximum points from direct clash

FA Trophy winners Balzan and champions Valletta cross swords in a clash between two teams who are eager to return to winning ways in one of the four BOV Premier League matches in programme on Saturday at the National Stadium and the Centenary Stadium.

In other matches, Hamrun Spartans take on Sirens, Sliema Wanderers face Gudja United and Hibernians meet Senglea Athletic.

Hamrun Spartans vs Sirens 18:00 Centenary Stadium

After playing three matches, Hamrun and Sirens are still unbeaten. The Spartans. After draws with Gzira and Gudja, the Spartans registered their first win as they defeated Tarxien 3-2 last week. Sirens, on the other hand, share the top spot with Senglea and Floriana after a draw with Senglea and wins over Mosta and Hibernians.

Hamrun goalkeeper Manuel Bartolo is ruled out as he serves a one-match ban.

Sliema Wanderers vs Gudja United 20:15 Centenary Stadium

After collecting just one point from the first three matches, Sliema Wanderers will be aiming for a first win as they take on Gudja United. The Wanderers lost 1-2 to Balzan and 1-3 to Valletta but earned a point in a 1-1 draw with Gzira United last week. Gudja, on the other hand, hope to maintain their unbeaten run following draws with Hibernians, Hamrun and Santa Lucia.

Hibernians vs Senglea Athletic 18:00 National Stadium

After losing 1-2 to Sirens last week, Hibernians will be hoping to bounce back with a win over Senglea. The Paolites have collected just four points so far after a draw with Gudja and a win over Tarxien. Senglea, on the other hand, are still unbeaten and share the top spot with Sirens and Floriana. Against the Paolites, they will be all out to extend their positive run.

Balzan vs Valletta 20:00 National Stadium

Balzan and Valletta will be all out to claim the three points on Saturday after a far from impressive start to their Premier League campaign. The Citizens lost to Santa Lucia in their opening game and after a 3-1 win over Sliema, they rescued a point in a draw with Floriana thanks to a stoppage-time goal. Balzan also were lucky to escape with a 3-3 draw thanks to an added-time goal by goalkeeper Kristijan Naumovski against Birkirkara last week following a win over Sliema and a defeat to Floriana in their first two outings.
