Floriana join Santa Lucia, Hamrun on top as Gzira are held in fourth consecutive draw

Floriana joined Hamrun Spartans and Santa Lucia on top the BOV Premier League table following a goalless draw with Gzira United at the National Stadium on Sunday.

For the Greens, this was the second consecutive draw after two wins in the first two outings and a draw with Valletta last week. This results puts them on the eight-point mark. Gzira, on the other hand, remain chasing their first win as they earned their fourth point in another draw after draws with Hamrun, Santa Lucia and Sliema Wanderers in the previous matches.

Mid-way through the first half, a Zach Scerri effort was neutralised by Akpan and Floriana replied with a shot Kristian Keqi which ended just over the bar.

Early in the second half, Justin Haber performed a good save on a Diego Venancio freekick and attempts by Conti and Kone went off target for Gzira. Diego Venancio then threatened with another freekick twelve mintues from time.

Both sides were reduced to ten men in the dying minutes as Matias Garcia was sent off for Floriana five minutes from time and two minutes later, Zach Scerri was also given marching orders by referee Alan Mario Sant.
