Gzira United test for Floriana

Floriana hope to move back on top the BOV Premier League table as they take on Gzira United in one of the two matches in programme on Sunday at the National Stadium.

In the first match, kick-off at 18:00, newly-promoted Santa Lucia take on neighbours Tarxien Rainbows in the derby.

Santa Lucia had a fine start after defeating Valletta 3-2, held Gzira United in a goalless draw and being held in a 1-1 draw by Gudja United last week. A win would enable them to join Hamrun on the eight-point mark.

Tarxien, on the other hand, remained empty-handed so far after losing 0-4 to Mosta, 1-4 to Hibernians and 2-3 to Hamrun Spartans in the first three matches.

Meanwhile in the second match, kick-off at 20:00, Floriana face another difficult test as they face Gzira United.

The Greens were one of the teams to impress so far after defeating Birkirkara and Balzan and were held by eternal rivals Valletta in a 1-1 draw last week thanks to an added time equaliser. Should they return to winning ways, Floriana would take sole leadership.

The Maroons, on the other hand, have failed to impress so far after being held in three draws by Hamrun Spartans, Santa Lucia and Sliema Wanderers. A win is a must for Giovanni Tedesco’s side in order not to lose further ground.
