Late goal condemns Tarxien to fifth consecutive defeat

Tarxien Rainbows remain empty-handed after five matches as they suffered a fifth consecutive defeat, losing 1-2 to Sliema Wanderers at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.

A win which enables Alfonso Greco’s side to move eighth on the five-point mark after two draws in their last two outings against Gzira United and Gudja United.

The Wanderers managed to break the deadlock two minutes from the end of the first half thanks to Claudio Zappa who managed to beat goalkeeper Rudy Briffa with a great rising shot from the edge of the area.

Substitute Seydou Sow headed the ball home from close range following a cross by Edmond Agius on the 63rd but the goal was disallowed for an offside.

Tarxien levelled matters on the 74th minute when Aleksa Andrejic beat goalkeeper Jake Galea with a diagonal shot from the right which hit the upright before ending at the back of the net.

However six minutes from time, the Wanderers notched the winner when Seydou Sow controlled a through pass before hitting low past the Tarxien goalkeeper.
