Newly-promoted duo Fgura United and St. George’s both registered their first wins in the BOV First Division in the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Fgura United defeated Pembroke Athleta 2-1 thanks to goals by Shawn Borg on the half-hour and Sergio Hili on the 59th with Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza reducing the gap two minutes from time.

On the other hand, a brace by Dylan Caruana gave St. George’s a 2-1 win over Mqabba. Dylan Caruana put St. george’s ahead on the 32nd minute and although Paul Chimezie equalised thanks to a penalty on the 39th minute, Caruana made it 2-1 six minutes in the second half.

Lija lead the way with nine points, followed by Qormi, Qrendi and St. Andrews on 7, Pembroke and Naxxar 6, St. George’s and Zebbug 5, Swieqi, Zebbug and Pieta 4, Fgura 3, Zejtun 2, Vittoriosa and Mqabba 1.
