Floriana turn defeat into victory to regain top spot

Floriana came back from a goal down to beat Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 at the National Stadium on Sunday to regain the top spot in the BOV Premier League.

This was the fourth win in six matches for Vincenzo Potenza’s side while for Tarxien, this was the sixth consecutive defeat which leaves them anchored at the bottom of the table without any points.

Ironically, Tarxien managed to take the lead on the 23rd minute thanks to Charles Manuel Murillo Torres who concluded a solo effort with a fine shot which beat goalkeeper Ini Etim Akpan.

Floriana equalised four minutes later thanks to a Jan Busuttil freekick from the right which was deflected by a defender past goalkeeper Rudy Briffa.

The Greens were unlucky to hit the upright through Kristian Keqi on 36 minutes.

However eight minutes in the second half, Kristian Keqi was not to be denied when he headed the ball home off a cross by Diego Venancio from the left.
