Birkirkara hit eight past Hibernians as BOV Women’s League gets underway

The BOV Women’s League kicked-off this week with the first three matches featuring six out of the seven participants in this season’s campaign.

Champions Birkirkara had the easiest of tasks as they defeated Hibernians 8-0 at the Charles Abela Stadium on Wednesday.

An own goal on the 7th minute paved the way for the Paolites and Ethiopian international Loza Abera doubled the score on the 17th. Ten minutes later, Birkirkara scored twice in a minute – thanks to an own goal and a goal by Raina Giusti – to move 4-0 ahead. Kailey Willis scored twice on the 39th and 42nd for the Stripes to enjoy a six-goal lead at half-time. In the second half, Mariah Sciberras scored the seventh goal on the 75th before Loza Abera added another three minutes from time.

Mgarr United registered a comfortable 4-0 win over Kirkop United at the Mgarr Ground on Tuesday.

New signing Francesca Chircop put Mgarr ahead on teh 11th minute and four minutes later, Roxanne Micallef doubled the score. Amber Grech made it 3-0 on the 31st before an own goal four minutes from time increased the lead for Mgarr.

At the Dingli Ground, Raiders Gharghur and Swieqi United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Ruth Steer-Chetham, one of the several new signings for Swieqi, put them ahead on the 9th minute but Raiders levelled matters through Anna Aloisio on the 36th.

In the Women’s Under-19 League, Mgarr United, Mosta and Swieqi United lead the way with maximum points after two matches.

Mgarr defeated Mtarfa 7-0 and Birkirkara 10-1; Mosta beat Kirkop United 2-0 and Hibernians 5-0 while Swieqi defeated Raiders Gharghur 4-2 and Kirkop United 4-0.

Raiders Gharghur collected their first three points in a 9-0 win over Mtarfa while Birkirkara registered a 10-0 win over Hibernians in their first outing.
