BOV Division 1: Lija maintain perfect record

Leaders Lija Athletic maintained a perfect record in the BOV First Division as they registered their fifth win on the trot, beating St. George’s 4-2 in one of the two matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium on Monday.

Erjon Beu put Lija ahead on the 20th minute and Hermes Manuel Palomino Fariñez doubled the score on the 25th. Just before the end of the first half, Aiden Galea increased the lead with Erjon Beu scoring Lija’s fourth on the 72nd. Dylan Caruana reduced the gap for the Cospicua side with a brace on the 81st and 89th.

Meanwhile in another match, Mqabba registered their first win as they defeated Fgura United 4-3.

Paul Chimezie gave Mqabba the lead on the 7th minute but goals by Thomas Grech on the 50th and Carlos Valero Gonzales on the 55th turned the score in favour of Fgura. Mqabba equalised on the 71st thanks to Alexsandro Ferreira dos Santos, regaining the lead thanks to Paul Chimezie on the 76th. Charles Kenny Gandini restored equilibrium on the 79th but two minutes later, Kevin Camilleri made it 4-3 for Mqabba.

Lija lead the way with 15 points, followed by St. Andrews, Qrendi and Pieta on 10, Naxxar 9, Pembroke and Qormi 7, Zejtun 6, St. George’s and Zebbug 5, Swieqi and Mqabba 4, Fgura 3, Vittoriosa 1.
