Floriana turn defeat into victory to extend lead

Floriana came back from a goal down to beat Sirens 4-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday and move four points clear on top the BOV Premier League table.

With this fifth win in seven matches, the Greens now lead the way the way with 17 points, four ahead of Sirens and six ahead of Hamrun and Senglea. For Sirens, this was the second defeat.

Sirens managed to take the lead on the 44th minute when Wellington de Oliveira headed the ball home following a cross by Sergio Raphael dos Anjos.

Floriana equalised six minutes in the second half thanks to Diego Venancio da Silva whose freekick was deflected by a defender past goalkeeper David Cassar.

Four minutes later, Floriana forged ahead thanks to Tiago Adan Fonseca who hit home off a cross by Alex Cini from the right.

Four minutes from time, Floriana made it 3-1 thanks to Brandon Paiber whose powerful drive from the edge of the area beat the Sirens goalkeeper.

The game was not over yet as three minutes in added time, Floriana added another when they were awarded a penalty after Daniel Sant handled the ball inside the area and from the penalty spot, Kristian Keqi made no mistake. Daniel Sant was sent off for the St. Paul’s Bay side.
