Valletta joined Hamrun Spartans in third place on the fourteen-point mark as they defeated bottom-placed Tarxien Rainbows 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

The Citizens therefore condemned the Rainbows to an eighth consecutive defeat as Marko Glumac’s side continues to chase its first points this season.

After having a goal by Irakli Dzaria disallowed for an offside by the Albanian officials, Valletta managed to take the lead on the 14th minute when Kyrian Nwoko received a through pass and advanced before hitting home past Rudy Briffa.

The Citizens doubled the score eleven minutes in the second half thanks to Mario Fontanella who received a cross and beat the Tarxien custodian with a curling shot.

Nine minutes alter, Douglas Packer made it 3-0 for Valletta as he chipped the ball over the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.

Tarxien pulled one back on the 79th minute thanks to a header by Stiv Shaba following a cross by Thomas Veronese from the left.
