BOV Division 2: Marsa regain top spot

Marsa regained the top spot in the BOV Second Division as they defeated Zabbar St. Patrick 3-1 at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Terence Scerri notched a first-half hat-trick for Marsa with penalties on the 24th and 26th and a goal in added time with Zabbar reducing the gap eleven minutes from time through Jean Claude Cesare.

Rabat Ajax bounced back from last week’s heavy defeat to Marsaxlokk as they defeated Birzebbuga St. Peter’s 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium.

Kurt Camilleri opened the score on the 16th minute and then Larens Vella scored three – on the 26th, 84th and 87th.

Kalkara United registered a fine 3-2 win over Melita at the Victor Tedesco Stadium.

Aaron Agius put Kalkara ahead on the 11th minute and Beppe Antignolo doubled the score on the 19th. A Larson Mallia penalty ten minutes in the second half extended the lead although Melita reduced the gap in the dying minutes thanks to Jean Pierre Attard on the 90th and Daniel Claridge on the 94th.

At the Centenary Stadium, Zurrieq defeated Xghajra Tornados by the odd goal in five.

Xghajra took the lead on the 39th minute thanks to a goal by Nestor Luis Silva Canas but an own goal on the 66th restored equilibrium. Zurrieq gained confidence and scored twice thanks to Ivan Bojovic on the 73rd and Ryan Farrugia ten minutes later. Silva Canas scored a second goal for Xghajra in added time to reduce the gap.

Marsa lead the way with 18 points, followed by Marsaxlokk on 16, Melita 14, Mgarr, San Gwann and Zurrieq 13, Rabat 12, Kalkara 10, Birzebbuga and Xghajra 8, Zabbar 7, Mellieha 6, Luqa 4.
