Gudja United hold Sirens in 1-1 draw

Sirens failed to close in on leaders Floriana after being held in a 1-1 draw by Gudja United in a clash between two of the newly-promoted sides at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday.

The St. Paul’s Bay side are therefore once again four points behind the Greens but risk falling into third place should Gzira beat Senglea on Monday.

Gudja, on the other hand, obtained the third consecutive positive result and now join Sliema on the 11-point mark, leaving Birkirkara and Santa Lucia second from bottom on ten points.

Sirens managed to take the lead on the 24th minute thanks to Romario Lucas Memezes whose great long-range effort stunned goalkeeper Jonathan Debono.

Gudja, however, levelled matters just before the end of the first half thanks to a Juan Andres Bolano header.
