Naxxar Lions claimed three important points in the BOV First Division as they beat Lija Athletic 3-2 in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.

Erjon Beu opened the score for Lija on the 13th minute but Benjamin Essel equalised on the 34th and in added time, Gilberto Carrara Martins Leite converted a penalty to put Naxxar 2-1 ahead. Edson Cerqueira Farias increased the lead on the 61st with Erjon Beu reducing the gap on the 78th.

In another match, a brace by Robeiro do Nascimento Santos handed Zejtun Corinthians a 2-0 win over St. George’s. The Brazilian converted a penalty seven minutes from the end of the first half and doubled the score four minutes in the second half.

Lija lead the way with 19 points, followed by Zejtun on 18, Qrendi and St. Andrews 17, Naxxar 16, Pieta’ 14, Zebbug 11, Pembroke 10, Qormi and St. George’s 9, Swieqi 8, Mqabba and Fgura 7 and Vittoriosa 4.
