Mgarr United moved top in the BOV Second Division as they defeated Xghajra Tornados 2-1 in one of the two matches in programme at the Luxol Stadium on Saturday.

The match came to life in the dying minutes as Aaron Sammut converted a penalty to put Mgarr ahead on the 80th minute and although Royter Degiorgio equalised three minutes later, Jack Vella notched the winner in stoppage time.

On the other hand, Rabat Ajax registered a 3-1 win over Mellieha. Luke Gatt opened the score on the 26th minute and four minutes later, Immy Micallef converted a penalty. Marko Mitic pulled one back for Mellieha on the 68th but Luke Gatt scored another for the Magpies.

Mgarr lead the way with 19 points, followed by Marsa on 18, Marsaxlokk 17, Rabat 15, Melita 14, San Gwann and Zurrieq 13, Kalkara 10, Birzebbuga and Xghajra 8, Zabbar 7, Mellieha 6, Luqa 5.
