Sliema hit four past Santa Lucia

Sliema Wanderers registered a second win on the trot as they defeated Santa Lucia 4-0 at the Centenary Stadium on Saturday. A win which enables Alfonso Greco’s side to move tenth as they leapfrog the same Santa Lucia, Birkirkara and Gudja United. The latter two, however, have a game in hand.

Oliver Spiteri’s side has now gone seven matches without a win, losing five matches and collecting just two points in draws.

The Wanderers took the lead two minutes from the end of the first half when off an assist by Seydou Sow, John Mintoff’s angled shot was not held by Santa Lucia goalkeeper Ryan Caruana to end at the back of the net.

Four minutes in the second half, Claudio Zappa, served by Edmond Agius, hit home from close range to double the score.

On the 78th minute, the Wanderers increased the lead though Peter Xuereb who scored from close range following a Juri Cisotti corner.

Juri Cisotti sealed the issue with a fourth goal as he headed the ball home off a cross by John Mintoff.
