FA Trophy: Domoraud brace sees Hamrun Spartans through to next round

Hamrun Spartans, Balzan and Pieta’ Hotspurs secured a place in the fourth round of the FA Trophy on Saturday.

At the Hibernians Stadium, Hamrun Spartans defeated Tarxien Rainbows 2-1 in a clash between two Premier League clubs.

Wilfried Domoraud opened the score on the 2nd minute and went on to convert a penalty on the 26th to hand the Spartans a two-goal lead. Petar Kanzurov pulled one back for Tarxien seven minutes from time.

Hamrun Spartans take on Swieqi United in the next round of the competition.

At the Centenary Stadium, Balzan defeated Second Division side San Gwann 3-0.

Balzan took the lead thanks to a goal by Michael Johnson on the 27th minute and just before the end of the first half, Andrija Majdevac doubled the score. Alfred Effiong sealed the issue with a third goal thirteen minutes in the second half.

In the fourth round, Balzan will be facing Sliema Wanderers or Santa Lucia.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Pieta’ Hotspurs defeated fellow First Division side Mqabba 3-0.

Jose Lucas Caetano da Silva converted a penalty on the 37th minute and another on the 44th. Mqabba goalkeeper was sent off following the incident which led to the second penalty. James Scicluna increased the lead on the 58th.

In the next round, the Hotspurs meet Xewkija Tigers or Mgarr United.
