FA Trophy: Sliema Wanderers eliminated by Santa Lucia

Sliema Wanderers, winners of the FA Trophy for a record twenty-one times, were eliminated from the third round after losing 0-2 to Santa Lucia. Hibernians defeated Zejtun Corinthians, Sirens beat Kercem Ajax while Victoria Hotspurs eliminated Zebbug Rangers.

At the Centenary Stadium. Santa Lucia scored twice in the second half to beat Sliema Wanderers 2-0 in a clash between two Premier League sides.

Kevin Ante Rosero put Santa Lucia ahead ten minutes in the second half. 

The Wanderers were reduced to ten men after having Kurt Shaw sent off two minutes from time.

Five minutes in added time, Jackson David Usuga Mendoza sealed the issue with a second goal for Santa Lucia.

In the fourth round, Santa Lucia face holders Balzan.

At the National Stadium, Hibernians defeated First Division side Zejtun Corinthians 3-0.

Andrei Agius put Hibs ahead on the 54th minute and Terrence Groothusen doubled the score two minutes later. Grootshusen made it 3-0 on the 64th minute. 

Hibernians take on Pembroke Athleta in the fourth round.

At the Victor Tedesco Stadium, Gozitan champions Victoria Hotspurs registered a 5-3 win over First Division side Zebbug Rangers.

Elton Alexandre da Silva converted a penalty on the 6th minute to put the Hotspurs ahead but Samuel Buhagiar equalised on the 14th. Henrique Maciel restored the lead on the 26th and Elton da Silva made it 3-1 five minute from the end of the first half. Saturday Nanapere reduced the gap ten minutes in the second half and ten minutes later, the Hotspurs ended in ten men after having Jason Pace sent off. However the Hotspurs still managed to extend the lead with a fourth goal thanks to Elton da Silva five minutes from time although Muda Fagbeja narrowed the gap for Zebbug on the 90th. However the game was not over yet as Emiliano Lattes made it 5-3 in added time.

In the next round, Victoria Hotspurs take on Gudja United.

Sirens defeated Kercem Ajax 4-1 at the Kercem Ajax Stadium. 

Angel Manuel Bustos gave Sirens a two-goal lead with a goal eight minutes from the end of the first half and another eight minutes in the second half, Abdullahi Ige Adeshina made it 3-0 on the 71st with Romario Lucas Menezes adding another five minutes later. Darko Krstic pulled one back for Kercem ten minutes from time.

Sirens meet Valletta in the next round.
