A goal by Alan Borg Olivier on the 33rd minute handed St. Andrews a narrow win over leaders Lija Athletic by the odd goal in five in one of the two matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Saturday.
This was the third defeat in five matches for Lija.
In another match, Pembroke Athleta defeated Qrendi 4-1.
Joao Pedro Oliveira Santos opened the score for Pembroke on the 26th minute and Jean Pierre Mifsud Triganza made it 2-0 on the 55th. Alexander Nilsson converted a penalty for Qrendi on the 74th but Pembroke hit back with goals by Mifsud Triganza on the 76th and Mattia Zarb on the 78th.
Lija lead the way with 22 points, followed by Zejtun on 21, Naxxar, Qrendi and St. Andrews 20, Pieta’ 17, Pembroke 16, Swieqi and Zebbug 14, Mqabba and St. George’s 10, Qormi 9, Fgura and Vittoriosa 7.
