Leaders Floriana will be hoping to move six points clear on Sunday as they take on Sliema Wanderers in one of the two BOV Premier League matches in programme at the National Stadium.
Kicking-off at 14:00, the clash between the two Old Firm rivals gives the Greens the chance to end the first round with a comfortable lead following the defeats for Gzira United and Sirens this weekend to Hibernians and Birkirkara respectively.
After being held in two draws, Floriana bounced back with a 2-1 win over Santa Lucia in their last outing and a win against the Blues would ensure they end the first round with an unbeaten record.
Sliema, however, eye another positive result after three wins in their last three matches in order to move to a more comfortable mid-table position.
Meanwhile in the second match, kick-off at 16:00, Hamrun Spartans take on Valletta.
The Spartans collected just four points from the last five matches in four draws. Results which saw them lose ground with the top teams. In fact, they are currently joint-sixth.
Valletta, on the other hand, won four out of the last six matches and target another win on Sunday in order to join Gzira in second place.
