Lija Athletic returned to winning ways in the BOV First Division as they defeated Qormi 4-2 in one of the three matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday. A win which puts Lija two points behind leaders Zejtun.
Frank Temile handed Lija the lead on the 9th minute and a penalty by Angel Manuel Bustos levelled matters for Qormi two minutes later. Lija regained the lead thanks to a Kabelo Seakanyeng on the 24th and the same Botswana striker increased the lead on the half-hour. Nick Ghio reduced the gap for Qormi on the 62nd but Temile added another two minutes later.
Fgura United earned a precious point in a 1-1 draw with Naxxar Lions. Giovanni Galea put Fgura ahead two minutes from the end of the first half but Mead Mifsud equalised on the 57th.
In another match, Mqabba defeated Qrendi 2-1. Alexsandro Ferreira dos Santos put Mqabba ahead on the 29th and five minutes later, Paul Chimezie doubled the score. Daryl Micallef pulled one back for Qrendi on the 77th minute.
Zejtun lead the way with 27 points, followed by Lija on 25, Naxxar and St. Andrews 21, Qrendi 20, Pembroke 19, Pieta’ 17, Zebbug 15, Swieqi 14, Mqabba and St. George’s 13, Qormi 12, Vittoriosa 9 and Fgura 8.
