Birkirkara were the first team to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Trophy as a brace by Caio Henrique Prado handed them a 2-1 win over Mosta in a clash from the fourth round at the Centenary Stadium on Friday.
The Stripes, who had defeated Nadur Youngsters 1-0 in the previous round, had an edge over their opponents but it was only early in the second half that they scored the goals which put them in the next stage of the competition.
Following a goalless first half, the Stripes managed to take the lead on the 47th minute when off a Matthew Guillaumier assist, Caio Henrique Prado who rounded the goalkeeper before placing the ball at the back of the net.
Five minutes later, Birkirkara doubled the score when Caio Henrique Prado concluded a good move on the right with a diagonal shot from inside the area which beat Nicky Vella.
On the hour, Mosta were awarded a penalty after Caio Henrique Prado floored Zachary Brincat inside the area. Referee Darryl Agius ordered a penalty and although Zachary Brincat’s effort was partially saved by goalkeeper Andrew Hogg, the same player tapped the ball home off the rebound.
