Tenth win for Nadur Youngsters

Nadur Youngsters maintained their unbeaten run in the BOV Gozo Football League First Division as they defeated Gharb Rangers 5-0 at the Gozo Stadium on Friday.

Luke Tabone opened the score on the 5th minute and Johan Alberto Castano scored twice on the 93th and 55th. Marcelo Barbosa converted a penalty on the 71st and six minutes later, Hugo Santa Rosa Cruz made it 5-0.

Goals by Elton Vella on the 25th and Darko Krsti on the 62nd handed Kercem Ajax a 2-0 win over Xaghra United in another match on Friday.

SK Victoria Wanderers shocked champions Victoria Hotspurs, defeating them 1-0 in the derby on Sunday, courtesy of a goal by Sam Harland on the 11th minute.

In another match, Ghajnsielem collected three precious points in a dramatic 5-3 win over Xewkija Tigers. Claudio Antunes Pavlidis opened the score on the 25th minute and three minutes later, Igor Nedeljkovic converted a penalty to level matters. Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior made it 2-1 for Xewkija on the 32nd and ten minutes later, the same player converted a penalty to make it 3-1. Three minutes in the second half, a penalty by Igor Nedeljkovic reduced the gap and Jhon Arboleda Valencia levelled matters on the 54th. Two minutes later, Igor Nedeljkovic put Ghajnsielem ahead and one minute from time, Nedeljkovic sealed the issue with a fifth goal.

Meanwhile last week, Xewkija Tigers secured a place in the semi-finals of the FIrst Division Knock-Out after defeating Victoria Hotspurs on penalties.

Henrique De Souza Maciel put the Hotspurs ahead on the 31st and one minute from the end of the first half, Claudio Antunes Pavlidis equalised. Elton Alexandre da Silva restored the lead three minutes in the second half but two minutes later, Claudio Antunes levelled matters. The match went into extra-time and Elton da Silva put the Hotspurs 3-1 ahead and after Sebastian Nayar was sent off for the Hotspurs, Claudio Antunes restored equilibrium.

In the penalty shoot-out, Emilio Lattes, Jonathan Bajada, Henrique de Souza, Elton da Silva and Andrew Mizzi scored for the Hotspurs and Jose Carlos Nogueira Junior, Claudio Antunes and Joseph Mario Vella scored for Xewkija. For the Hotspurs, Christain Mercieca’s penalty was saved by the Xewkija goalkeeper while the Hotspurs goalkeeper saved the penalties by Claudio Daniel Frances and Manwel Xerri.

In the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Oratory Youths defeated Zebbug Rovers 3-2. Tiago Barbosa put Zebbug ahead but goals by Chris Borg, Bartomeu Perello Palou and Paul Rapa turned the score in Oratory’s favour although Tiago Barbosa scored a penalty to reduce the gap.

Sannat Lions registered a comfortable 5-1 win over Zebbug Rovers. Damon Hili put Sannat ahead and although Lucas Farrugia equalised for Zebbug, Ebube Ralph Okpokwu scored four to hand the Lions a handsome win.

Munxar Falcons defeated Qala Saints 5-3, courtesy of Luke Attard, Derek Paul Borg (2) and Ayesller Carvalho (2) with Stefan Farrugia and Felipe Augusto de Oliveira (2) scoring Qala’s goals.

Qala suffered another 3-5 defeat, this time to St. Lawrence Spurs, goals by Matthias Michael Uzor, Charlon Farrugia (2), Karl Formosa and Louis Buttigieg for the Spurs, Stefan Farrugia, Jeremy Portelli and Martin Buttigieg for Qala.
