A brace by young Gabriel Xuereb gave Naxxar Lions a 2-1 win over St. Andrews in one of the two BOV First Division matches in programme at the Victor Tedesco Stadium on Monday.

Xuereb put Naxxar ahead on the 31st minute and although Mattia Veselji equalised one minute later, Xuereb made it 2-1 on the 67th.

Meanwhile in another match, St. George’s and Mqabba shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw to join Fgura and Vittoriosa on the 16-point mark.

Kieran Xuereb put Mqabba ahead on the 76th but Jurgen Grech was quick to equalise for St. George’s two minutes later.

Lija lead the way with 33 points followed by Zejtun on 32, Qrendi 29, Naxxar 28, Pembroke 27, St. Andrews 26, Pieta’, Qormi, Swieqi and Zebbug 21, Fgura, Mqabba, St. George’s and Vittoriosa 16.
