Nadur Youngsters edge closer to title after impressive win

Leaders Nadur Youngsters moved an important step towards the BOV Gozo Football League First Division championship after defeating second-placed Xewkija Tigers 5-0 at the Gozo Stadium to move eight points clear.

Johan Alberto Castano put Nadur ahead on the 16th minute and a minute later, Marcelo Junior Barbosa doubled the score. Chris Camilleri made it 3-0 on the 28th and eight minutes later, Marcelo Junior Barbosa scored a fourth goal. Two minutes from the end of the first half, Castano handed Nadur a five-goal lead.

Kercem Ajax oved further away from the danger zone as they defeated Gharb Rangers 2-1. Jhon Sandobal Guarin put Kercem ahead on the 71st and although an own goal restored equilibrium seven minutes later, Andrea Debrincat notched the winner five minutes from time.

On Friday, Ghajnsielem came from behind to defeat Victoria Hotspurs 3-1 to move to just one point away from the current champions. Christian Mercieca opened the score on the 19th minute for the Hotspurs but Igor Nedeljkovic equalised just before the end of the first half after having a penalty partially saved by the goalkeeper. Nedeljkovic made it 2-1 on the 76th minute and in added time, Michael Bezzina sealed the issue for Ghajnsielem with a third goal.

Xaghra United joined SK Victoria Wanderers on the 10-point mark thanks to a 2-0 win in a direct clash. Luis Andre de Melo Lima gave Xaghra the lead on the 18th minute and Joseph George Vella doubled the score ten minutes in the second half.

Meanwhile in the BOV Gozo Football League Second Division, Oratory Youths registered a fine 3-0 win over leaders Sannat Lions in the top-of-the-table clash courtesy of Justin Azzopardi on the 33rd, Daniel Azzopardi on the 57th and Paul Said on the 94th.

On the other hand, Munxar Falcons defeated St. Lawrence Spurs 4-2. Goals by Ayesller Carvalho on the 16th and Derek Paul Borg on the 56th gave Munxar a two-goal lead. Karl Formosa reduced the gap on the 68th but four minutes later, Derek Paul Borg made it 3-1 and Ayesller Carvalho 4-1 on teh 75th before Karl Formosa scored a second goal for the Spurs on the 80th.
