Qrendi move just one point behind Lija Athletic in the BOV First Division as Qrendi defeated Naxxar and Lija lost to Fgura in two of the three matches in programme at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.
Lija, in fact, failed to regain the top spot after dramatically losing 1-3 to Fgura United. Giovanni Galea converted a penalty to put Fgura ahead on the 13th minute but Erjon Beu levelled matters on the 28th. One minute from time, Gustavo Ferreira de Souza made it 2-1 for Fgura and in stoppage time, Sergio Hili sealed the issue with a third goal.
Qrendi registered an impressive 4-1 win over Naxxar Lions. Jonatan Silveira da Silva opened the score for Qrendi on the 19th and Steven Schembri made it 2-0 just before the end of the first half. Jonatan Silveira da Silva made it 3-0 on the 75th and although Abubakar Bello Osagie pulled one back on the 90th, Alexander Nilsson scored a fourth goal for Qrendi in added time.
A brace by Renan Farias Bigode on the 17th and 58th gave the Stars a two-goal lead. Oscar Guerrero made it 3-0 on the 63rd and Adolphus Nagbe Marshall pulled one back for St. George’s seven minutes from time.
