BOV Division 2: Marsa hit six past Kalkara

Lydon Micallef was the hero for Marsa as they regained the top spot in the BOV Second Division thanks to a 6-1 win over Kalkara United at the Luxol Stadium on Sunday.

Micallef scored twice on the 22nd and 33rd to hand them a two-goal lead and Paul Lapira made it 3-0 tin the 35th. Micallef scored another two goals on the 47th and 62nd to put Jose Borg’s side five goals ahead. Beppe Antignolo pulled one back on the 69th but Larson Mallia converted a penalty on the 74th to make it 6-1.

Marsaxlokk came back from two goals down to rescue a point in a 2-2 draw with Mgarr United at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Jamie Micallef put Mgarr ahead on the 6th minute and Lazar Doric doubled the score on the 22nd. Marsaxlokk reduced the gap on the 44th through Josuel Spiteri and on the 95th minute, Christian Degabriele notched the equaliser.

Melita beat Xghajra Tornados in another match at the Luxol Stadium. Mark Russo gave Melita the lead on the 24th minute and five minutes later, Daniel Claridge doubled the score. Jake Engerer scored a third goal just before the end of the first half and five minutes in the second half, Mark Russo made it 4-0. Antoine Attard scored a fifth goal for Melita on the 57th minute and Royter Degiorgio pulled one back for Xghajra on the 65th.

Mellieha claimed three precious points in a 2-1 win over Birzebbuga St. Peter’s at the Victor Tedesco Stadium. Yaron Sammut put Mellieha ahead on the 7th minute and although Christopher Cutajar converted a penalty to level matters on the 40th minute, Jordan Debattista made it 2-1 for Mellieha on the 65th.

Marsa lead the way with 40 points, followed by San Gwann and Marsaxlokk on 38, Mgarr 32, Rabat 31, Melita and Zurrieq 28, Mellieha 21, Kalkara and Zabbar 20, Birzebbuga 16, Xghajra 13 and Luqa 9.
