Malta Under-19 side hosts Montenegro in friendly matches

The Malta Under-19 team will play two friendly matches against Montenegro in their first international commitments of 2020. The games, at the Centenary Stadium, will take place on Tuesday and on Thursday, both kicking off at 11:00.

Newly-appointed coach Andrea Tedesco, who is assisted by Stefano Grima, has selected a squad of 26 players for these two friendlies which are part of the Malta U-19s’ preparations for their UEFA commitments later this year.

The first qualifying tournament, for Under-18 players, will see Malta take on Albania and Moldova in Group C4 in September. In their second competitive assignment, a qualifying tournament for the 2020/21 UEFA European Under-19 Championship being played in November, the Maltese team will face England, Slovenia and hosts Wales in Group 10.

Three players in the current Under-19 squad turn out for overseas clubs, namely Barnsley goalkeeper Miguel Spiteri, Byron Madu, who plays for English team Grays Athletic, and Leo Agius who is on the books of Belgian club KVC Westerlo.

Mosta, Pietà Hotspurs, St Andrews and San Ġwann are the most represented clubs, eaching having three players called up to the provisional Malta U-19 squad.
