Winning start for Sliema Wanderers

Sliema Wanderers came from behind to beat Hibernians 3-1 at the Centenary Stadium on Sunday.

It was a fine display by the Wanderers who collecting three precious points against another team who would be challenging for honours. On the other hand, for the Paolites, this was a disappointing result as they were seeking a morale-boosting win after losing narrowly to Fehervar earlier this week.

Sliema coach Andrea Pisanu named new signings Riki Kakinuma, Oscar Linton, Ruslan Kisil and Myles Beerman in the starting line-up, including Alessandro Milesi, Danny Holla and Sylvano Comvalius as substitutes.

Stefano Sanderra, on the other hand, opted to start with Rundell Winchester in the starting line-up.

Ferdinando Apap put the Paolites ahead on the 20th minute, heading the ball home off a corner.

However Sliema equalised on the half-hour thanks to a header by Juri Cisotti.

Jean Paul Farrugia put the Wanderers ahead for the first time on the 59th minute when he received an assist by Riki Kakinuma from the right.

Two minutes in added time, Andrei Agius was sent off for Hibernians in added time after receiving a second yellow cards for dissent.

A minute later, Jean Paul Farrugia sealed the issue with another goal following a swift counter-attack for the Blues.
