Match day 3 of the BOV Premier League will be played on Wednesday and Thursday in order to give the national team ample time to prepare ahead of the friendly match against Gibraltar on October 7 and the UEFA Nations League clashes against Andorra and Latvia on October 10 and 13 respectively away from home.
Hamrun Spartans and Valletta will be aiming for a third win in as many matches as they take on Senglea Athletic and Gzira United respectively. Birkirkara face Lija Athletic while Tarxien Rainbows and Hibernians cross swords in the derby.
All matches are being played behind closed doors. but fans are able to watch games thanks to the live-streaming service being offered by the Malta Football Association at https://live.mfa.com.mt/ apart from the usual two weekly matches which are broadcast on TVM 2 and/or TSN.
Lija Athletic FC vs Birkirkara FC, kick-off 17:00 at Centenary Stadium
Birkirkara will be hoping to collect their first points as they take on Lija Athletic. The Stripes disappointed in 2-4 defeat to Valletta and a 0-3 defeat to Mosta. Against Lija, they are expected to be eager to bounce back with a win although they received a further setback due to the departure of Matthew Guillaumier who joined Hamrun Spartans. Lija, on the other hand, are coming from a 0-2 defeat to Gudja United after a fine 4-0 win over Senglea in their first outing.
Carl Cassar will be back for Lija after serving a one-match ban.
Tarxien Rainbows FC vs Hibernians FC, kick-off 17:00 at National Stadium
Following a fine 3-1 win over champions Floriana, Hibernians hope to make it two wins in a row as they take on neighbours Tarxien. Tarxien, on the other hand, collected their first point thanks to a stoppage-time equaliser in the clash with Gzira after losing narrowly to Balzan in their first outing.
Hamrun Spartans FC vs Senglea Athletic FC, kick-off 21:15 at Centenary Stadium
Buoyed by the signing of Matthew Guillaumier, Hamrun will be aiming for a third consecutive win on Wednesday as they face Senglea. The Spartans registered two comfortable wins in their first two outings, beating Sirens 5-1 and Santa Lucia 4-1 in their first two outings. Senglea, on the other hand, earned a point in a draw with Zejtun after losing heavily to Lija in their first outing.
Valletta FC vs Gzira United FC, kick-off 21:15 at National Stadium
Valletta also seek a third win in as many matches after defeating Birkirkara 4-2 and Balzan 1-0 in their first two outings. However, it will be no easy match as the Maroons are eager to register their first win after a 1-2 defeat to Floriana and a 1-1 draw with Tarxien in their first two matches.
